We are back! Hello 2021

I confess in my bio that I am ‘a writer that doesn’t write’ and I’ve decided it’s time for a change.
It is time to become…
‘A writer that doesn’t write, writing about not writing!’
Too much?!
I can confidently say that I have barely written a thing in 2021 so far. Not a letter and barely a shopping list. Here is where it starts.
Elaine was the inspiration behind our task for the week ahead. Like the thoughtful pal that she is, to give Carol a bit of relief from the mundane, Elaine emailed her the tale of wild events that happened on her street this weekend. All of which are fabulous and completely fabricated (you never know, perhaps we can convince Elaine to post it). I’m looking forward to seeing what’s been happening on the rest of our streets and I am excited to give it a go, my pen is poised.
This fresh vigour to be productive comes from seeing my companions on screen for the first time this year. Despite sadly not being able to view them in the flesh, seeing their faces and hearing their words of encouragement has lit a fire in me after months and months of inactivity.
Much like my contradictory statement of being a writer that doesn’t write, I am also the most sociable unsocial person I know. It is only after spending time with my friends, letting off steam, or sharing a joke that I realise how much I need them.
‘The Write Companions are more than just an eclectic bunch of individuals meeting to share thoughts on writing, we have now become firm friends.’
The above line from our joint biography isn’t just a random bit of soppy cheese (baked camembert anyone?), it’s the truth!
Each companion is so different. Different personalities, jobs, hobbies (other than writing of course), perspectives and voices. In terms of meetings, there are faces we see regularly and some we do not, it’s never a problem.
Hearing from or seeing any one of these guys always cheers me up and makes me smile, so I’m not surprised chatting to many of them today has made me feel a little more alive and inspired.
Our differences are what make the group work. We are an elastic band rather than a rock. Do you know what I mean? We do. That’s because we ARE friends.
It’s time for me to round this up and then actually research how to write a blog so I can do a better job in future. But not before I send this out to my friends, Carol, Elaine, Kat, Mark, Pam and Pat to check for my lazy mistakes. They are The Write Companions and the right companions to support me and my every unwritten word.
